Whether you are missing one tooth, many teeth, or are completely edentulous, Dr. Livesay, Dr. Carey, and Dr. Naselsker can create a treatment plan to improve your oral health and restore your smile.

If you have missing or failing teeth and want to learn about your restoration options, we encourage you to contact us. We have two offices in Louisville and one in Bardstown.

Dental Implant Placement

All oral surgery services begin with a consultation. This is a time for you to get to know your doctor, understand your condition, and learn more about your options for treatment. During this appointment, your oral surgeon will review your medical and dental history, perform a comprehensive oral evaluation, and order 3D imaging. Your options for anesthesia will also be discussed and selected at this time. In the case of immediate implants, we can perform the surgery on the same day as the consultation.

Your surgical procedure will begin with the administration of anesthesia. Once the anesthesia has taken effect, your surgeon will make an incision in the gums. The implant, which is made of medical-grade titanium, is then surgically inserted into the jaw bone. The surgical site will then be stitched closed.

Over the next several weeks, the titanium implant post will fuse to the jaw bone. This fusion is what makes dental implants so stable and long lasting. Once healed, your restorative dentist will place the crown, which has been fabricated to blend in with your surrounding teeth.

We provide detailed instructions to follow before and after your surgery. Please follow all instructions provided by your surgeon. For your convenience, we have posted general instructions on our site.

Types of Anesthesia

Our practice offers several forms of anesthesia.

Immediate Implants

Traditional dental implants require several weeks of healing before the final prosthesis can be placed. However, for patients who need a tooth extraction before receiving a dental implant, immediate implants may be recommended. This ensures patients do not lose more bone due to the absence of the tooth, as well as avoids a second procedure. Since patients receive an implant the same day as extraction, they do not have to go weeks without a complete smile.

Immediate implants, also known as same-day implants, involve first extracting the tooth, and then surgically placing the dental implant post, and then placing the crown. call.

Cost of Dental Implants

The cost of any oral surgery treatment varies from patient to patient. Several factors will determine your cost of treatment, including:

  • The complexity of your procedure
  • Your medical/dental insurance
  • If additional procedures are needed, such as bone grafting

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I eat steak with dental implants?

Once healed, you can eat all your favorite foods again—including steak, nuts, jerky, popcorn, and more.

Do dental implants hurt?

Some discomfort after any oral surgery is to be expected. The anesthesia we use during your procedure will ensure the procedure itself does not hurt, and we will send you home with instructions for pain management after. Fully healed dental implants do not cause any pain.

How long does the dental implant procedure take?

In general, dental implant surgery takes about one hour per implant. However, every patient and treatment is different, so your surgery may take longer or shorter. Your surgeon should give you a more accurate estimate after your first visit.

Am I a candidate for dental implants?

The good news is that many patients qualify for dental implants. Some patients may need bone grafting to build up the bone in order to receive dental implants. However, dental implants may not be suitable for patients who have severe bone loss or periodontal disease, or those with certain medical conditions.
